Resource Centre

The Resource Centre is in line with the modular development of the society’s activities, with the aim of empowering the visually disabled population in the city and region.

OBJECTIVE OF THE RESOURCE CENTRE

To create a hub, in the city as well as in the region, for the collection and dissemination of information and knowledge relevant to the visually disabled population. Such information and knowledge would be in the following areas:

  • Incidence, causes, and statistical information relating to blindness and visual disability;
  • Medical information, including ophthalmological resources present in different location;
  • Academic and vocational information relating to courses, syllabi and course materials that would be of interest to prospective and present students who are visually disabled;
  • Lending, selling and reference library of audio CDs that are produced in the Society’s recording stidio, and from other sources;
  • Braille books and materials, including facilities for braille printing;
  • Information relating to prospective employment opportunities, as well as data-bank of curriculum vitae of visually disabled persons who are looking for employment;
  • Library material of general reference matter;
  • Digital resources, including access to online material available nationally and globally through desktop computers at the Resource Centre, that are loaded with assistive software such as ‘Jaws’ (text-audio conversion), and having high speed internet connection;
  • Cal Centre facility through the Resource Centre Manager, who would be in a position to receive telephonic or email inquiries and requests for information and respond to them;
  • Career counselling services, in person and over telephone, for visually disabled persons, through dedicated phone number.
