The Welfare Society for the Blind was established on the 17th of April, 1970, in the city of Kolkata, by a group of voluntary social workers, led by Smt. Geeta Basu dedicated to the cause of empowering the visually challenged through vocational training

Today, after nearly 5 decades, through a large part of the vision of the founding members may have been fulfilled, we still have a long way to go.
